Overview: There is a rapidly growing interest in applying Electronic Product Code (EPC) in pharmaceuticals, not only among drug companies and distributors, but also in the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA). In response to this, the Auto-ID Center commissioned us to investigate how a net value estimate of applying EPC to the pharmaceuticals industry could be developed. To date most work has focused on technical architectures, structuring EPC networks, and how EPC can prevent counterfeit materials getting into the pharmaceutical supply chain.
