Overview: Increased globalization, improved information technology and production technologies, low costs at distant destinations, environmental claims, improved transportation and communication are all important factors that have led to increased competition. When focusing on core competencies only, suppliers are more and more often included in partnerships in order to improve products more quickly and at lower costs. The chain of suppliers therefore needs to be flexible and responsive, thereby improving the ability to react quickly to changes in the market. Therefore, there is a need for supply chain management (SCM), flexible production technologies and co-operation on product development.
