Overview: This paper presents the current state of labor market data collection, analysis and dissemination practices in a selected sample of developed, transition and developing countries with a view to identifying what could be termed good practices in the development of labor market information systems (LMIS) and the use of labor market information (LMI) for human resource development planning. The paper provides a description of the evolution of labor market analysis as an alternative approach to manpower planning, and an examination of current practices in LMIS development in the selected sample of countries.
