Overview: The focus of this study is on technologies with lower energy consumption and lower greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions over the life cycle which includes not only operation of the vehicle on the road but also the manufacture and distribution of both the vehicle and the fuel, during the vehicle's entire lifetime. The purpose is to determine how competitive fuel cell (FC) vehicles would be with internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles if advances in FC technology were closer than previously assumed to the higher targets foreseen by some FC advocates.
