Overview: In order to maximize profitability, egg producers must choose laying strains of appropriate body size to meet their market demands for egg number and size without the birds consuming any more feed than necessary. Feed consumption is particularly dependent on environmental temperature, body maintenance requirements, and ME level of the feed. The performance of 14.7 million commercial layers in 203 different flocks, located throughout the U.S. and representing 11 different White Leghorn strains was recorded and summarized.
