Overview: This article attempts to uncover some of the myths around hedge funds and is designed to de-mystify the investing in hedge funds. Hedge funds suffer from negative press. The headlines over the past three years have not always been favorable for the industry. Similarities can be drawn to the airline or the derivatives industry where only disasters are reported. Given the negatively biased press coverage of hedge funds and the large reported losses of macro hedge funds in H1 00, the evolution of hedge funds will take a similar route to full acceptance as investment instruments to manage portfolio risk as did derivatives.
