Overview: A founding owner using tried and true quality manufacturing methods, a son looking to take the company into the future, a furniture manufacturer at a juncture. With the advent of CNC technology, nesting software, custom panel lay-ups and improved joinery techniques, the owner kept an eye on emerging frame construction technology using engineered wood. Choosing one design, they constructed a frame from 7/8" frame-grade plywood, while his father constructed an identical frame from 5/4" hardwood lumber. They had the frames tested for strength and the engineered wood frame won hands down. But the conversion process did not happen overnight.
