Overview: To evaluate the effect of visitor restrictions and to guide future visitation policies, the Hospital conducted a preliminary survey of patients, next of kin, staff, physicians and volunteers. In the absence of evidence upon which to base future visitor policy development, there is a need for objective input from healthcare workers, patients and families. The findings of this study suggest patient and staff support for visitor restrictions. Further studies are warranted to confirm these findings and to assess the level of support for visitor restrictions in the absence of a recent SARS outbreak.
