Overview: The High Level Architecture is reusable software architecture for the development and execution of distributed simulation applications. The HLA has become a new standard for distributed simulation in the object. This paper reviews and explains in detail the basic concepts of distributed interactive simulation and its evolving history from SIMNET to HLA. The paper further presents the illustration to show how the HLA supports the requirements of the collaborative virtual environment (CVE) via its service groups, using the virtual shopping mall application as an example.
