Overview: This paper describes the seismic performance of an upper-deck type reinforced concrete arch bridge with span length of 150m and rise of 27m, subjected to a ground motion recorded at Kobe in the 1995 Hyogo-ken nanbu, Japan, earthquake. The bridge was designed in accordance with the equivalent static lateral force method, assuming the lateral force coefficient of 0.18. In the analysis, two- dimensional finite element modeling was used. The arch rib was idealized by the nonlinear beam elements. Ground motions were evaluated based on an equivalent linear response analysis of soil/rock at the construction site.
