Overview: Builders and remodelers across the northern United States are learning the advantages of frost-protected shallow foundations (FPSFs) and the use of the technology is spreading. Frost-protected shallow foundations are included as an energy efficient and resource-efficient technology in the Green Builder Program of Colorado. This document introduces the Frost-Protected Shallow Foundations (FPSFs). It explains what FPSFs are, how they work, the benefits involved, where they are approved.
