Overview: The economic potential for saving energy has been largely exhausted as far as the individual components of electrical drive systems are concerned. However, there remains a huge potential for saving energy by improving the design of the overall systems and their dimensioning. The purpose of this article is to point out ways of exploiting this potential and thus counteract the wide spread reluctance to take advantage of the possibilities on offer, something which companies have been slow to do for the most varied of reasons, such as short-term investment considerations.
