Overview: With the completion of the new terminal at Detroit Metropolitan Airport on February 28, 2002, the city made a major step in having one of the most advanced transportation facilities in the country. Ongoing renovations at the existing Davey and Smith terminals at the same location will complete this development activity. The new terminal was needed because the older facilities could no longer efficiently handle the volume of traffic into and through Detroit. The facility has a full length system of "people-mover" conveyors in addition to the high speed passenger tram, 80 shops and restaurants; four children's play areas, and a large parking garage.
