Overview: Ferris State University was privately owned and operated until 1931 when it became a non-profit education corporation. In spring 2003, the Bulldogs were completing a highly successful season and making plans for the national collegiate tournament. The facility suffered major breakdowns on two of the three 26-year-old reciprocating chillers used for ice-making. An inspection of the failed chillers indicated that repairs would be expensive and time-consuming. The installation of the system took place in the spring, after the end of the 2003 hockey season. Now Ferris State has a system they can depend on for a long time.
