Overview: The U.S. apparel market stabilized in the first half of 2004, while the U.S. footwear market continued to grow. With retail prices stabilizing this year in both apparel and footwear, this means that U.S. apparel firms are able to improve profit margins by increasing value, not volume while U.S. footwear firms are enjoying the best of both worlds, a growing market coupled with growing profit margins. The uncertain economy has not seemed to quell Americans' desire for nor their increasing willingness to pay full price for both clothes and shoes.
