Overview: Various investigations into the tensile properties of plain weft-knitted fabrics have been carried out by various authors. Most of these investigations were based on the micromechanics of knitted structures. This paper presents a 3D model based on the classic elastica theory, which is used to calculate the load-extension curves of a plain weft-knitted fabric in the course wise and wale wise directions. Good agreement is obtained between theoretical and experimental results.
