Overview: The overall U.S. apparel and footwear import markets grew in the first ten months of 2004, showing that U.S. footwear and apparel firms continue to give U.S. consumers what they want, an ever wider variety of higher quality shoes and clothes at reasonable prices. Noting that over 96 percent of all apparel and over 98 percent of all footwear sold in the U.S. market is already imported; many studies have pointed out that U.S. consumers, particularly lower and middle class working families, are the big winners from better access to more affordable clothing and shoes.
