Overview: Electronic projectors have come a long way in the last few years so that they now present a viable alternative to a conventional film projector. However, there are still several obstacles that prevent the widespread adoption of digital projectors, with their associated lack of film. Are the potential gains worth the investment? Many of those who manage and operate cinema chains still believe that the present and near future of cinema lies in forcing a bright light through the tiny gate of a 35 mm film projector. This paper looks at some of the issues involved.
