Overview: The team responsible for constructing the Channel Tunnel Rail Link is making engineering history with the 109 km line that is due to be completed in 2007. When the first section of the Channel Tunnel Rail Link opened for commercial services on 28 September 2003, passengers for the most part were unaware of the complex engineering required to build the new line. This is one of the largest construction projects and not simply a case of laying track across straight, unobstructed countryside.
