Overview: Coen's Performance & Environmental Services team was competitively selected to furnish low NOx retrofit technology to reduce NOx emissions by 85% to 0.06 lb/MBtu at a 55-MW utility boiler plant. Coen proposed the 0.06 lb/MBtu NOx guarantee by minimizing modifications to the plant, while preserving boiler operating flexibility and load capacity, and utilizing combustion modifications only. Coen kept the retrofit cost to a minimum by re-using the existing burner air register and replacing the critical gas firing components with custom-engineered low-NOx gas spuds and a matching flame stabilizer (spinner). The existing flame scanners, igniters, and backup #2 oil firing system were re-used, further minimizing cost.
