Overview: Gulf State Utilities installed a Westinghouse 501D5 industrial gas turbine in its Louisiana Station, located adjacent to an Exxon Refinery in Baton Rouge. Steam for additional power and for purchase by Exxon was generated in a heat recovery steam generator (HRSG), with 500 mmBtu/hr of supplementary duct burner firing with either refinery gas from Exxon or natural gas. Since its initial commercial operation, the original burner never met all the emission permitted levels to Gulf State Utilities satisfaction. A special design for refinery gas with insulated manifolds and steam cleaning provisions was provided. Of course, Coen's latest low CO emission technology was included.
