Overview: Venture capitalists who were optimistic in 2002 about an improving landscape in 2002 have long since recanted and are singing a much darker tune as they look ahead to the year 2003. At the beginning of the year 2003, venture capitalists who have had to tighten their belts in recent months might have been hoping for rather more lucrative times to come.
