Overview: Like most of the Telecom/Datacom industry, the test equipment segment has had many setbacks in the last eighteen months. The explosive growth that was experienced since the wave of deregulation in the developed markets and the drive for network deployment in the emerging markets has been reversed or scaled back in the new millennium. The simple fact facing the Telecom/Datacom industry is that fewer customers exist and they are buying significantly less equipment. Vendors in this space have seen the first wave of consolidation and several big players have become much more focused on this industry segment.
