Overview: This paper forecasts that shipments of wireless products for monitoring and control in discrete and process manufacturing to North American markets will grow from almost $109 million in 2001 to about $752 million in 2006, at a compound annual growth rate of over 47%. Shipments with Bluetooth wireless networking is expected to have the highest growth rate over the forecast period. However, use of Bluetooth in these applications is expected to remain fairly low, with these products forecast to account for only a single digit shipment share in 2006. Compared to IEEE 802.11a and 802.11b, Bluetooth data transmissions have limited bandwidth.
