Overview: There is a current interest in using large bars as reinforcement in seismically resistant structures. While a large amount of experimental and analytical work has been performed to study the size-effect on the shear strength and flexural strength of reinforced concrete members less attention has been devoted to the size effect on the bond strength of reinforcement, including the size effect on tension lap splice strength. This report presents a modified design equations for 16-lap splice strength, which agrees with both the experimental results presented in this study and the bulk of the experimental data reported in the literature.
