Overview: This fact sheet describes the life cycles, types, and various diseases caused by the ticks of Oklahoma. Ticks are very important pests of wildlife, domestic animals, and humans. Their irritating bites cause extreme pain and economic losses in domestic animals and a great deal of discomfort to people who work or play in tick-infested areas. In addition, ticks transmit several disease-causing organisms in animals and humans.
