Overview: Online gaming is very popular nowadays. With successes on the PC, it could be an opportunity for the console market. It has been tried in the past, but it has not really caught on. Now that the new generation of consoles is here, it is time to reevaluate the situation. The three competitors in the online console market are Microsoft X-Box, Sony Playstation2, and Nintendo GameCube. In 2003, all three competitors will offer their online services in Europe. This paper takes a look at all the possibilities for online gaming on these consoles in the current situation.
