Overview: This paper provides details about the aims of the project which were to evaluate the potential markets and system design options for grid connected and grid independent SPFC power generation systems taking into account the projected cost and performance of system components and of competing technologies. There will be no real market for SPFC in stationary generation by the 2002 timescale stipulated in the study because of the high cost and, as yet, unproven capability of SPFC systems.
