Overview: The purpose of this paper was to design and test a series of PEM fuel cell catalysts, which can use the output from a reformer and single clean up stage as anode fuel. The use of a reformer to convert a hydrocarbon fuel such as methanol, methane or gasoline to a H2 rich fuel stream overcomes difficulties associated with the storage and distribution of the hydrogen. The problems of how to store or distribute hydrogen currently present a significant barrier to the commercial introduction of PEM Fuel Cells, especially for transportation applications.
