Overview: The objective of this paper was to investigate the type of use that a Light Commercial Vehicle (LCV) is subjected to and to determine that which would most benefit being powered by a fuel cell power train. A fuel cell vehicle will be heavier that a diesel powered version so in order to keep the same payload the kerbside weight has been increased from 3.5 tonnes to 3.8 tonnes. The user of an Light Commercial Vehicle (LCV) will require the same performance from a fuel celled version as the current diesel version and calculations using a typical drive cycle have shown that a 80kW fuel cell is needed.
