Overview: The objective of the paper is to identify limitations to the large-scale deployment of wind energy in the UK presented by the existing electrical networks in England, Wales and Scotland. The paper is based on the assumption that if the Government's target of 10% electricity generation to be from renewable sources by 2010 then a significant proportion of this generation will be from wind energy generators. The paper investigates the possibility of accommodating 4000 MW of onshore wind energy generation and identifies where significant reinforcement will be required in order to accept this level of generation.
