Overview: The majority of distribution systems both in the UK and worldwide are passive with a unidirectional flow of power from the high voltage transmission grid to the low voltage loads. The increase in the amount of generation being connected to these distribution grids is changing this paradigm. As more distributed generation is connected the flow of power is no longer from high to low voltage but can often flow back up into the main grid. In this paper, the size of the wind farm, the local load and the feeder impedance are varied to demonstrate their effect on the voltage of the local busbar.
