Overview: At the end of 2000 there were 76 operating wind farms in the UK, with a total of 862 turbines providing a combined generation capacity of more than 408 Megawatts (MW). Consistent with the availability of high-grade wind resource, the majority of the wind farms are segregated regionally in Cornwall, Northern England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. This paper provides information on the location of wind farms in North and East England and the best places to see them. It provides a selection of wind farms in the area rather than a comprehensive list, as the number of wind farms is steadily increasing.
