Overview: This paper discusses about wind power as a source of energy and provides an overview of UK Government policy on wind energy and other renewables. Wind energy is inherently sustainable; i.e. using it today does not have an ongoing negative impact on life in the future. It has a number of key advantages over conventional means of electricity generation. The UK is one of the windiest places in Western Europe and has a tremendous potential for wind energy. Wind power can make an important contribution to the UK Government's central energy policy objective of secure, diverse and sustainable supplies of energy at competitive prices.
