Overview: PV thermal collectors produce both electricity and heat simultaneously. The efficiency curves of three different collector concepts have been calculated. These curves have been used in a numerical systems study in which these collectors were used for hot tap water or domestic heating, either with or without a heat pump. In the present study, the effect of the basic design choices is examined. The choice of the materials is the same for all examined concepts, and is set to a multicrystalline PV laminate, a glass cover, copper tubing and a copper absorber. A sheet-and-tube concept is calculated with one or zero covers.
