Overview: This paper discusses about the research and development undertaken in order to develop a low cost building integrated concentrating photovoltaic system. The objective of the work carried out was to develop a product that could be cost effective with commercially available components and thereby overcome the main market barrier for widespread dissemination of solar energy technologies. The concept was to replace the most expensive part of a PV system - the modules - with low cost mirrors that concentrate solar energy onto a module that could be one seventh of the size of a conventional module.
