Overview: This paper focuses on the information about the energy consumption by Cyprus' for the generation of electricity. Cyprus' energy consumption is mainly oil-based and since it has no domestic production of oil, Cyprus is an oil importer. Practically, the whole amount of electricity is generated by imported oil, and the import of oil products absorbs approximately 50% of the export earnings. The replacement of imported oil products for electricity generation by natural gas is under active consideration and would bring substantial benefit to the energy sector and the country's economy.
