Overview: Since the advent of networks, organizations have struggled with how to secure their networks from unauthorized intrusions. While file servers and applications traditionally have a login and password, there was no way to secure all the network resources. A-VLANs are a solution that extends security to the wall plate, forcing end stations to perform a true network login; that is, they must login to the switch before they can access any resource on the network. These flexible VLAN types, combined with AVLANs, allow administrators to tightly control access to their networks, while allowing those same users to be logically grouped rather than grouped solely by their location.
