Overview: The Brunswick nuclear plant is located on a 1,200 acre site near Southport, North Carolina, at the mouth of the Cape Fear River and is owned jointly by PGN (81.67%) and the N. C. Eastern Municipal Power Agency (18.33%). The plant is a dual-unit power plant that has a combined capacity of approximately 1,770 megawatts, generating enough electricity for approximately 1 million homes. The first nuclear plant built in North Carolina, the Brunswick plant generates between 20 and 25 percent of PGN's electricity produced for its customers in North and South Carolina.
