Overview: This paper looks at the following four issues concerning the interaction between project contracts and insurance policies: the importance of ensuring, as far as possible, that a contractor's insurance policies protect those risks which fall on that contractor under the project contracts; the various means by which the scope of cover provided by insurance policies will determine the allocation of risk under the project contracts; the management of the consequences if both insurance policies and contractual indemnities respond to the same event; and the drafting of obligations to obtain insurance cover for the benefit of other parties.
