Overview: DC-DC converter modules, commonly called "bricks" are power-dissipating devices with conversion efficiencies ranging from roughly 80 to 96 %. Their successful application within computing, telecom, test and measurement or other apparatus depends upon system designers understanding their thermal characteristics. Thermal design information usually takes the form of thermal derating curves that show maximum recommended output current for ambient airflow conditions.
