Overview: This paper focuses on internal design and manufacture, of DC/DC converters and Purchasing off-the-shelf modules from merchant power supply companies. This paper splits these factors into two groups. The first group, referred to as cost factors, relate to the raw cost of the converter. The second group, designated experience factors, relates to experience and knowledge base of the organization developing the power supply. This paper is intended to highlight all of the issues that need to be taken into account when system manufacturers are planning the power supply architecture for their product.
