Overview: The competitive threat in the insurance industry has never been greater. The Financial Services Modernization Act of 1999 significantly changed the business landscape for the financial services industry which includes banks, securities firms and insurance companies. The Act eliminates many state and federal law barriers imposed by the Glass-Steagall Act that previously restricted affiliations between banks, securities firms and insurance companies and the services and products they could market. On the flip side there has never been a better time for insurers to grow top line revenue by selling new products to an already established customer base.
