Overview: To host events which require, or benefit from, complete enclosure of the stadium. Sports that can be accommodated at the Colonial Stadium include rugby union and rugby league, soccer, cricket, basketball, gridiron, hockey, wrestling, boxing and super cross. A 600tonne mobile crane, one of the largest in the Southern Hemisphere, was imported from Europe to erect the roof trusses. The closing roof panels, which weigh 2100tonnes, were assembled on the ground, jacked up 40m, installed in position and then spliced together. A total of 4600 tones of steel were used. The largest sections, for the four main trusses, exceed 610mm diameter.
