Overview: A plan to build a new sports stadium at Shanghai had been developed in the late 1980s but shelved because of the post-1989 recession. Shanghai Sports Centre is China's first long span fabric roof structure and the worlds longest cantilevered steel truss roof structure. Perimeter tubular steel framing was introduced above the top chord of the trusses at each bay, connected by stub posts at the node points. The raised tubular frame acts as a roof boundary supporting structure to which panels, ridge and suspension cables are anchored.
