Overview: The airport is a European hub for flights to South America and passenger numbers have been increasing steadily since the first international terminal was opened in 1977. This has put the existing facilities under tremendous strain, even though they were extended in 1998. The following year, Richard Rogers was appointed to design completely new airport buildings. The new terminal will comprise of 240 interconnected modules each with a width of 9 metres and length of 75 metres. The most eye catching feature of the structure is its undulating roof which is made of steel with Kalzip cladding.
