Overview: Australia's Federal Government announced its intention to amend the Copyright Act to allow the parallel importation of books, music and software (including computer games). Currently, the Act prohibits parallel importation, except in relation to sound recordings, material on packaging and labeling, and, in certain circumstances only, books. This announcement followed the interim recommendation of the Intellectual Property and Competition Law Review Committee that all restrictions on parallel importation should be lifted.
