Overview: Fuji Electric has been examining ways in which its wind generators can be a viable source of power on remote island sites with weak grid links. Of key importance is the resolution of power supply variation, and increasing wind penetration. Initially Fuji Electric successfully tested a 1 X 100 kW UPT KESS on a wind turbine simulator in Tokyo and demonstrated its ability to smooth supply. Fuji Electric ordered a specially profiled, 1 X 200 kW UPT KESS for wind farm field trials. The UPT KESS linked interface has provided a power stabilizing capability to the highly variable wind turbine power.
