Overview: The North Carolina Department of Insurance is responsible for the protection of North Carolina citizens through the oversight and regulation of insurance companies and agents doing business in the State. In exercising its regulatory responsibilities, the Department seeks to ensure a marketplace in which consumers can readily purchase insurance at fair prices, from financially sound and responsive companies, for their lives, health and property. In addition to regulating the insurance industry, the Department also enforces safety codes and standards and administers a variety of programs aimed at loss prevention and safety education and awareness throughout the State.
