Overview: The industry outlook for the year 2000 - 2001 is stable despite market conditions and performance for several reasons. First, the report assigns ratings with a long-term perspective, recognizing that title insurance is a highly cyclical business. Individual company ratings are based in part on experience in previous cycles and expectations for results throughout future cycles. Individual company performance is measured relative to operating profits and returns for peers and the aggregate industry. Rating changes for individual companies in the near term are more likely to take place due to changes in relative performance than for absolute performance.
